The course will focus on the history of warfare before moving on to the various campaigns and battles from the medieval period to the post Cold War era. Students shall be exposed on the development of war strategy, tactics, roles of military leaders, impacts and limitation of technology, the political and social effects of these campaigns and the lessons learned. A section will also be devoted to the history of counter insurgency warfare.


This course aims to reinforce essay composition skills and introduce students to the practice of writing for academic purposes. It introduces and prepares students with basic research writing skills including: conducting research, note taking, paraphrasing, summarising, in-text referencing, positioning, and applying APA style citation. This course will place emphasis on composition skills such as: sentence and essay structures; and cohesion and coherence.
